A delegation from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, one of the world鈥檚 leading universities, visited Y谋ld谋z Technical University. The discussions focused on new collaborations in artificial intelligence, medical robotics, smart manufacturing, student exchange, and international R&D projects.

A delegation from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), one of the world鈥檚 most prestigious institutions of higher education, visited Y谋ld谋z Technical University (YT脺) to engage in comprehensive discussions aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between the two universities. This visit, which served as a continuation of the strategic partnership established during our Rector鈥檚 inaugural visit to China, explored opportunities for collaboration in numerous fields, ranging from artificial intelligence and medical robotics to smart manufacturing technologies and international student mobility.

A new roadmap was established following the agreement

The program began with a tour of YT脺鈥檚 Davutpa艧a Campus. Subsequently, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ey眉p Debik, hosted Shanghai Jiao Tong University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Zhaoguo Zhang and his accompanying delegation. Also participating in the program were Prof. Dr. Qian WANG, Deputy Director of the Office of Global Cooperation and Exchange; Prof. Dr. Weidong CHEN, Associate Dean of the Institute of Medical Robotics; Dr. Hailei CHEN, Asia Affairs Specialist at the Office of Global Cooperation and Exchange; and Ms. Guifang QI, Head of the International Relations Office at the SJTU Paris Elite Institute of Technology. 

During the meeting, the work carried out following the previously signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was reviewed, and the strategic roadmap for future cooperation between the two universities was discussed. 

Artificial intelligence and medical robotics among priority areas

Following the meeting at the Rector鈥檚 Office, a roundtable session was held, bringing together academics and administrators.

During the meeting, opportunities for joint work in the areas of artificial intelligence, medical robotics, control systems, smart manufacturing technologies, international student mobility, and Turkey-China academic collaborations were evaluated in detail.

In addition to YT脺 Rector Prof. Dr. Ey眉p Debik, the meeting was attended by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Vatan Karakaya, Chief Advisor to the Rector Prof. Dr. 脰zer 脟谋nar, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Prof. Dr. Ahmet Faruk Bakan, YT脺 Y谋ld谋z Technopark Deputy General Manager Prof. Dr. Cengiz Kaya, and relevant faculty members.

YT脺鈥檚 innovation ecosystem was showcased on-site

Following the meetings, the delegation from Shanghai Jiao Tong University received information about YT脺 Y谋ld谋z Technopark, the Technology Transfer Office (TTO), and the Industrial Design and Prototyping Center (ETP).

As part of the program, the delegation was introduced to YT脺 Y谋ld谋z Technopark鈥檚 entrepreneurship ecosystem, collaborations with Turkish industry, and projects carried out in various technology fields.

The delegation then visited the Industrial Design and Prototyping Center (ETP) and the Central Laboratory to examine the research infrastructure firsthand.

Advanced technology laboratories were inspected

As part of the visit, the SJTU delegation also toured the advanced technology research laboratories operating at YT脺.

During the tour, information was shared about the research infrastructure focused on advanced materials technologies, particularly the Nanotechnology Laboratory, the Glass Technologies Laboratory, and the Coating Technologies Laboratory.

New steps toward joint projects and student exchange

At the conclusion of the meetings, the two universities reached an agreement on joint work in areas that will take their collaboration to the next level.

Accordingly, it was decided to develop student and faculty exchange programs, evaluate new scholarship opportunities under the China Scholarship Council (CSC) and SJTU scholarship programs, and identify areas for joint research, developing project-based education and short-term exchange programs with SPEIT and Global College, and preparing joint international projects under T脺B陌TAK, Erasmus+, and Horizon Europe.

The visit is expected to make a significant contribution to strengthening long-term strategic partnerships between Y谋ld谋z Technical University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University in the fields of education, research, technology development, and internationalization.
